Pompey har bestemt seg for å forlenge kontraktene til Jay Mingi (bildet) og Jayden Reid.

NYHETER: Du vil bli møtt med full forståelse om dette er navn du ikke nikker gjenkjennende til. Jayden Reid kom til Pompey sommeren 2021, men har på grunn av en alvorlig skade ikke spilt et eneste minutt for Pompey ennå.

Jay Mingi kom til Pompey tidlig i 2021/22-sesongen etter å ha imponert på prøvespill. Etter å ha vært på utlån til Maidenhead, returnerte han til Pompey i vår og spilte totalt tre kamper etter å ha fått sin debut mot Accrington Stanley.

Mingi er en 21 år gammel midtbanespiller som gikk gradene i West Ham uten å få sin førstelagsdebut. Fikk sin første profesjonelle kontrakt i Charlton, men heller ikke her fikk han noe gjennombrudd. Nå er håpet at han kan få det i Pompey kommende sesong. Hans kontrakt med Pompey er forlenget ut 2022/23-sesongen.

Danny Cowleys kommentarer: «Jay is a young player on an upward curve and had a really positive first half of last season on loan at Maidenhead. That was unfortunately curtailed by a dislocated shoulder and we had many different options for him – both in the National League and League Two – in January.

But we decided to keep him as part of our group and he benefitted from training with us on a consistent basis. We were able to work on different areas of his game – particularly in possession and his ability to seek a pass.

It was great to see him make his Football League debut for us and we see further growth in him, so we look forward to supporting Jay in his development.”

Jayden Reid

Den 21 år game angrepsspilleren/vingen kom til Pompey fra Birmingham, hvor han hadde spilt fire førstelagskamper, sommeren 2021. I en treningskamp mot Luton skadet han derimot kneet sitt og han har derfor vært ute med skade hele 2021/22-sesongen.

Men til tross for at han ikke har spilt et eneste minutt med førstelagsfotball for Pompey ennå, har Pompey valgt å benytte seg av sin opsjon på å forlenge kontrakten med ham.

Danny Cowleys kommentarer: «It was incredibly unfortunate for him to sign a contract with us and then, just a week later, pick up an injury that kept him out for the season. But the day that happened, we knew that we would exercise the option in his contract for another year.

That was always the right thing to do – both from a moral perspective and also because we really believe in him as a player. Jayden has got real athleticism and is fantastic on the counter-attack, while he’s also a really good finisher. We know how hard he’s had to work with the medical and sports science team to get fit again, but he was able to train with the squad towards the back-end of the season.

So now we’re all really looking forward to seeing what the 2022/23 campaign has in store for Jayden.”
