I cannot imagine that there are many Pompey fans who are sorry to see Jackett go. He did very well points wise but the football was not what the fans expected.

I don’t know what went wrong to generate the sudden loss of form – we had been top for a brief moment and then it all fell away. This coincided with Jackett being ill but it is impossible, as an outsider, to tell if that was in any way related.

While I was convinced earlier in the season that automatic promotion was in reach I have lost some of that confidence.

However, I am pleased with Jackett’s replacements they did incredibly well at Lincoln and must have learned a lot from their time at Huddersfield.

They have taken over a very talented team who have demonstrated their capabilities throughout the season so far and now it is up to them to motivate them to play at their best and enjoy their football.

Alt å vinne

My hope is that a more new  approach with fast attaching football will encourage the players to show what they are really capable of. Unfortunately our buffer of an excellent goal difference has diminished but there are still a good number of games and consequently points left for Pompey to at least regain a play-off place.

As the Cowleys have only got a contract until the end of the season they have little to loose and everything to gain by  demonstrating that they are still competent effective managers/coaches.

It is a bit of an unusual situation for them, the club and the players who will be out of contract at the end of the season. If Pompey get promoted they will have to strengthen the squad considerably so who whoever is manager will have a challenge to decide who is offered a new contract and who isn’t.

Bør gi nye kontrakter til Whatmough og Naylor

If Pompey stay in League 1 I think most of the players should at least be offered new contracts – the squad have shown that they are good enough to challenge for promotion and should be capable of doing the same next season. While it is difficult to judge without seeing Pompey play for a year, there are not, in my opinion,  any players who should obviously go. Jack Whatmough should be offered a new contract and I think Naylor has also done well.

We might struggle to keep Curtis if we do not go up and there might well be a temptation to cash in while Pompey can still get a decent fee.

Tror Cowley-brødrene var et godt valg

Pompey will have to see how the next 5 or 6 games go and then make a decision on whether the management change is the right one (the win against Ipswich was a good start particularly since it was at Fratton where we haven’t done so well recently).

If the owners change again, any incoming manager will want to try to influence transfers in an out and needs to have as much time as possible to do so.

At the moment, my feeling is that Pompey have made a good choice and that we will have the same management team next season irrespective of which league we are in. I just look forward to be able to get back to Fratton to watch live football again and to be able to forget about the past year as quickly as possible.

Stay safe and Play Up Pompey
