2019-20: Portsmouth – Wycombe 2-0

Portsmouth Manager Kenny Jackett:

“It was a hard-fought game and Wycombe are a tough nut to crack – you can see why they’re top of the table.

“It was never going to be easy for us against a terrific unit who make life difficult for you all over the pitch.

«There were some good bits of finishing from our players and those moments of composure really made the difference.»

“Gareth Ainsworth has done a fantastic job there, but I’m pleased to say that they key moments went our way.

“There were some good bits of finishing from our players and those moments of composure really made the difference.

“We had to persevere and stick with it, creating some really big chances at the start of the second half, like the header from James Bolton.

“There was that neat side-step from Ben that got us up and running. I’m really pleased for him because he’s chipped in with some key goals.

“Ronan’s one gave us a little bit of breathing space and when he combines with Ellis, they look a real partnership.

“We have to keep sticking with that because we feel it can keep improving and make a real impact for us.”

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth:

«It’s Portsmouth away, it’s a fantastic football club and they’re a good side on a run. We almost gave them a run for their money but we weren’t as clinical as they were. We hit the post at the end, had a free header and a pot shot but nothing really clinical like Portsmouth.»

‘I’m disappointed with the first goal. I think there was an offside that has gone against us and maybe on another day we get that. The second goal isn’t us in the way we defended that. Hopefully we can get some of these injuries back because with four out in a 23-man squad, you’re looking at small numbers.

‘But I’m still really proud with where we are in the league and are at home on Sunday.’

#Pompey Just a few short weeks ago I was furious at an insipid display in the cup. No effort and no clue. All of a sudden, and with a makeshift defence, we beat the top two and keep clean sheets against both. And at 2 0 up there was no question we were just holding on. PUP!

I did go and we won 2-0. Stop moaning you cunt. We’re 2 points off automatics that’s the least you could ask for before MK Dons who look to be struggling at the moment. To say we lacked creativity is an understatement. We played the ball round them. #Pompey

Ben Close looks a much better footballer when he has Cannon and Naylor in midfield with him doing all the scrapping. Without the third midfielder we always look so weak with Close and just one other. Marquis may struggle to get back in – he just doesn’t suit Jackettball #Pompey

Pitman should go in January, a big wage but simply not needed with Marquis and Hawkins on the bench, great for the club but his wages could bring in some serious talent for us #Pompey

10 points from 12 against the top 4, deserved those points and still unbeaten at home going into 2020, did not expect that – credit where it’s due to Jackett

His name is Ronan Curtis, he wears a magic hat. When you take him down, he calls you a fucking twat.

Great win against a disgusting side with zero intent on playing «football», For them top the league shows hows poor/open it is.we go again.shant on.#pompey
