Leon Maloney scoret Pompeys mål da akademiet spilte 1-1 mot Swindon.

AKADEMIET: Pompeys akademi er nå ubeseiret i fem kamper på rad, etter at det endte 1-1 i bortekampen mot Swindon.

Swindon ledet 1-0, men Pompey utliknet på straffespark etter at Leon Maloney var sikker fra ellevemetersmerket. Det var Maloney selv som ble felt i forkant av straffen.

Akademimanager Mike Kelly: «It was a good, open game, with plenty of commitment on show from both teams.

“We started off really brightly and played some nice football, creating a few opportunities that we were unable to capitalise on. Swindon took the lead after our keeper came out to deal with things when he probably should have stayed upright. But Leon levelled from the spot and we changed the formation a bit after the break, as he joined Alfie Stanley up front.»

“We continued to play some impressive stuff – despite the elements – and used the ball well to get into promising spaces.“Alfie had two really good chances, Leon went one-on-one with the keeper a couple of times and there was another moment when Oscar Johnston should have hit it first time. We just couldn’t finish things off and we’re normally better in front of goal, so on another day we might have won comfortably. But Leon Pitman also pulled off a fantastic save when we were pushing to get a second and we defended excellently in what was a competitive contest.”
