Dansk spiss klar for Portsmouth

Pompey har igjen en skandinav i sine rekker. Den danske spissen Elias Sørensen (24) er klar for Pompey.

NYHETER: Det er fire sesonger siden sist vi hadde en skandinav i Pompey. I 2020/21-sesongen hadde vi den danske midstopperen Rasmus Nicolaisen. Nå har vi en ny dansk spiller i Pompey-stallen. Elias Sørensen.

Forrige sesong spilte han i dansk 2. divisjon (nivå 3) for Esbjerg. Der ble han toppscorer, årets spiller og sikret opprykk til 1. divisjon. Selv om han var veldig god for Esbjerg forrige sesong, er det et stort steg opp til engelske Championship. Det vil derfor trolig være fornuftig å ikke ha for store forventninger til at Sørensen skal umiddelbart inn og sette sitt preg på Championship.

Det er mer sannsynlig at han gradvis får mer og mer spilletid, men forhåpentligvis har vi en dansk spiss her som vi kan få mye glede av de neste årene.

Sørensen har spilt u-landskamper for Danmark på nesten alle nivået og ble i sin tid hentet til Newcastle som 16-åring. Han fikk aldri sin førstelagsdebut der, men var utlånt til flere klubber før han i 2021 returnerte til danske Esbjerg.

Nå har Pompey kjøpt han for et ikke offentliggjort beløp. Sørensen har skrevet under på en treårskontrakt med Pompey. Pompey har opsjon på ytterligere ett år.

«Elias is an incredibly talented young centre-forward with plenty of potential. He’s already been over in England and so has had a taste of the game over here. He then went back to Denmark and enjoyed a huge amount of success – particularly last season.

We’re excited by his energy – he’s a real livewire – and, of course, the assists and goals he has in his arsenal. He’s a threat on the shoulder and also very capable with his back to goal, so we’re delighted to welcome Elias to the club.”

«I’m over the moon and so happy to be here – now I just can’t wait to get started. It was tough when I knew the club wanted me because I just wanted to come over and begin training. I was messaging my agent all the time.

I’ve always wanted to play in England and was at Newcastle before, although didn’t really make it there and went back home. I was happy at Esbjerg, but now the next step is to come back here and prove myself, which I’m excited about.

I love the football culture in England. I’ve matured massively since the last time and my lifestyle is 10 times better. It’s a perfect time and I’m ready. I’ve spoken to the manager and the sporting director and discussed the plan for me.

I have a desire to get into the box all the time and if there’s a chance to shoot, I always try to do that. If I miss, I don’t care and will try again. I love scoring goals and so always want to get into the dangerous areas.”
