Før hjemmekampen mot Lincoln ble den flotte statuen av klubblegenden Jimmy Dickinson avduket.

NYHETER: Jimmy Dickinson spilte over 800 kamper for Pompey mellom 1946 og 1965, og han er den med flest kamper for klubben gjennom tidene. Han spilte også 48 A-landskamper for England som Pompey-spiller og vent serien to ganger med Pompey (1948/49 og 1949/50).

Han regnes som tidenes største Pompey-spiller og etter hans karrière jobbet han i Pompey i ulike roller, deriblant en periode som manager. Han døde i 1982, bare 57 år gammel.

En annen Pompey-legende, Alan Knight, sto sammen med Dickinsons sønn (Andrew) for avdukingen. Statuen er plassert ved ned nordvestre hjørnet av Fratton Park.

Statueprosjektet ble til etter initiativ fra Pompey Supporters’ Trust og ble finansiert gjennom en rekke donasjoner fra Pompey-fans. Prosjektet er en del av Pompeys 125 års jubileum.

«We are delighted that in our 125th anniversary season, we will recognise and celebrate Jimmy Dickinson’s outstanding football career with the unveiling of this magnificent statue at Fratton Park. Jimmy is not only one of Portsmouth Football Club’s best ever servants, but is an individual truly recognised throughout the game as one of football’s all-time greats.

Our gratitude and congratulations go to the Pompey Supporters’ Trust for inspiring the project, to Douglas Jennings for creating an amazing sculpture of Jimmy and to all those who have contributed to this statue through personal donations. Jimmy is the very embodiment of the Pompey spirit and it is therefore fitting that all who visit the stadium, will be reminded of both his contribution to Portsmouth Football Club and his outstanding legacy to the game of football.”
