Pompey are having a lean spell at the moment and we can only hope that this is a temporary situation. I believe that they have really missed the suspended Marlon Pack who has been so influential so far this season. His return will bolster our midfield considerably and hopefully we will once again be able to dominate matches.
I have been impressed with Owen Dale and Colby Bishop and would like to see more of Josh Koroma. I remain impressed with both the players and the management – this is one of the best Pompey teams I have seen in a long while and cannot see why our results should not pick up soon. Yes there is a bit of a gap up to Plymouth but they are not so much better than Pompey that we cannot achieve promotion.
The owners have confirmed a continuing commitment to the club and the infrastructure has certainly benefited considerably. My biggest concern is that some of the players that have been brought in on loan and who have done well so far might be recalled early as has happened in the past and we could suffer as a result – I am thinking of Dane Scarlett in particular who while he might not go back to Spurs directly, might fit in well with a championship club. Similarly, Huddersfield might feel that Josh Koroma could still be needed given their faltering season.
Pompey should at least be looking to have some contingency cover if the worst happens and or to investigate some of the loans becoming permanent if nothing else to make the players feel wanted and motivated. I don’t see much risk of Pompey selling any of their own players unless say somebody offered a large sum for Ronan Curtis for example.
While I would obviously have liked to be higher up the table, we are still in a very competitive position and there is enough to remain positive about so far this season. We seem to be popular with the television companies which might be good for income but bad for people like myself who struggle to make mid-week matches and had already booked flights etc.
