Officiel matchreport

Joey Barton, Fleetwood manager:

“We headed here on the back of going to Swindon on Saturday, travelling and getting no training in before the trip down here for another tough encounter at Fratton Park.

“We’ve kept two clean sheets, I think that’s three clean sheets in the last four, and picked up four points away from home in two tough fixtures which help keeps that momentum going.

“If we had won the game at the end there, it would have been a cherry on the top of a really good team performance.”

“It was a really disciplined performance, we asked a few of the players who are more known for the attacking side of their games, to do a shift without the ball today because there are going to be times when you are pressured due to their quality.

“We’ve been free-scoring in some of the game this season, but you have to have some clean sheets and a solid defensive foundation to build off. In terms of Saturday, and coming into this game today, we’ve seen some really good signs of the foundation we’re building.

“We’re starting to get a bit of confidence when it comes to coming to the big clubs in our division and giving good performances and, obviously, coming to Portsmouth, it was a good test against a team who are in a good run of form so it’s a good point.”

Kenny Jackett, Portsmouth manager:

“It was slightly frustrating and we just couldn’t get going in an attacking sense like I know we’re capable of.

“Maybe that was our decision making and we weren’t able to link cohesively quite as well as we usually do.

«Despite huffing and puffing in the second half, just diddn’t create the chances we needed.»

“We had the majority of the game and didn’t really look in any danger, but all the time you can’t score, you’re always worried that a chance can come at the other end.

“I felt we were on top in both halves, without finding our usual link play and balls into the wide areas weren’t very good.

“It was a bit lumpy and not one of our better performances, although we forced their keeper to make a couple of good saves before the break.

“We couldn’t build the momentum from that and despite huffing and puffing in the second half, just didn’t create the chances we needed.

“The players never stopped wanting it and they never stopped trying, so we take the point and move onto Friday.”
