2019-20: Bolton – Portsmouth 0-1

Bolton manager Keith Hill:

«I’m proud of the players, their application and the way they’ve performed under a little bit of pressure from a negative result on Tuesday night,»

«We’ve bounced quite well and I’m encouraged by the performance.

«We’ve got to be better and make better decisions, so we’ve got to learn and the way you do that is through matchday experience and proper practice every day in training.

«We’ll keep practicing those skills and eventually the players will become better – whether it’s attacking, defending, heading, shooting, passing, you name it.

«The training model is to improve players and opportunities, so I’ve got no disappointment but I know we’ve got to keep focusing more on key aspects.

«Their goalkeeper made some excellent saves. We worked him and had a few half chances in the first-half where I believe we should have done better.

«From a football perspective in the second half, I thought we were brilliant in and out of possession.»

Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett:

“It’s a great win. The first half was fairly even, although I thought we looked the slightly stronger side.

“It was great to see us get our noses in front through a set-piece because we had a lot of them and wasted a few good opportunities.

«It was great to see us get our noses in front through a set-piece because we had a lot of them and wasted a few good opportunities.»

“In the end, though, it was Seddon’s delivery and Raggett got the first touch, with Christian doing well to follow up.

“My centre-backs haven’t contributed enough in the other box this season and if you need that if you want a successful season.

“Bolton were right on top of us just after the break and the changes we made helped to protect our midfield.

“Andy Cannon played very well when he came on and really did make a difference, although we were looking for that second goal on the break.

“That didn’t come, but I have to congratulate the players because they fought for each other and showed fantastic spirit to get over the line.

“I also have to thank our fans, who travelled a long way to support us. They really contributed and we appreciate their efforts.”

Another setpiece goal. Seddon with another peach of a ball. #Pompey flattering to deceive and the hosts will be aggrieved at HT. I can’t see Bolton scoring twice though so let’s get the 2nd and put this game to bed. No. Sitting. Back.

Not pretty today. But we’re grinding out results, something we haven’t done the past two January’s. We’re well in the mix, and hit nowhere near top form

Jackett is deluded gave Bolton far too much respect, should be beating teams like that comfortably but due to his negative tactics and style of play we give these teams a chance, look at Accrington Stanley we lost 4-1 to them, today they lost 2-1 at home to Southend

Hoping is clearly a waste of time. But, three points and ‘hope’ next time we can ‘exercise’ the opposing goalie.PUP

Alex Bass deserving of that clean sheet today after another promising display, Ellis Harrison took a kicking as usual and kept coming back for more, Seddon continues to show his class and Burge a pleasing match winner after that gritty showing

Plenty of chat in the press room that Raggett should have been red carded for that challenge on Dodoo. Basically, everyone thinks he should have gone. #Pompey

Absolute shit house win, lovely piss boiling from our fans, incredible piss boiling from Burge and Ronan at the end. Fairplay to Bolton fans though, good laugh and considering their stadium is half empty a decent atmosphere up the bastard blues

No idea how #Pompey won today. Oh yes I do, Bolton strikers couldn’t score in a brothel as the old saying goes…

#pompey Martin, I watched all the match. Agree about Bolton & Raggett. However, IMO ‘second half’ we were overrun. Williams had next to no impact & some poor passes led to danger.Second half looked like Bolton were a Championship side.BUT three points

Seddon’s sweet left foot again a provider today…he could prove to be the smartest bit of transfer business #Pompey have done all season. Quality crosses and decent dead ball delivery at last.

#pompey Know how you feel, been there. However, from a Pompey fan view we were lucky not to draw/lose.If you could afford a couple of strikers that could score….. Your interplay up to pen area excellent for most of match. But we score & hold out.
