2017-18: Portsmouth – Charlton 0-1

Goodnight and thank you.

Actually annoyed #pompey fans were quiet, I guess they played shit , but missed the away/home banter

Disappointing day for #Pompey but fair play to Charlton and their fans for good performances on and off the pitch. At the start of the season most would have agreed that top 10 finish would be a reasonable season after promotion. Hopefully onwards and upwards next year.

Pretty sure the corner flag did more than naismith on the pitch today!. #Pompey . Today Went to show team not ready for championship yet. What the odds for promotion next season .?

Was hoping for a BIG PUSH today… got more of a gentle nudge! 1st half we struggled passing the ball 5yards..2nd half was better but still we weren’t clinical enough, although Pitman puts his chance away & it’s game on! More of a case us giving them the game! #Pompey #UpTheBlues

Dont think i ever fumed at a home game so much as i did today Kai Naismith showed the worst performence i have ever seen in a blue shirt Kennedy should be in over him Such a poor attitude didnt want it at all and that 40 yard pop with Lowe open FML #Pompey

No disrespect but i think Kenny Jackett was the most disappointed man in the dressing room at FT. His L1 record doesn’t usually include finishing under the playoffs. However he has had more money at his disposal in the past. That’s not a dig at Tornante either #Pompey

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer:

“I’m really proud of them,” said Bowyer, as his side added to the 2-0 win at Shrewsbury in midweek.

“To do what they’ve just done – to go to Shrewsbury on Tuesday night and put in the effort and commitment they did and then have this quick turnaround and come to Portsmouth, which is probably the most intimidating place in this division and put in that effort and that fight. Their togetherness was outstanding.

“We dominated that game first half. We should have, if we took a bit more care in possession, scored two or three goals. The most important thing for me is we’ve kept another clean sheet. They’re a squad of players who know what’s at stake. I’ve drummed it into them. The reward is massive and it’s in their hands. They have to fight for each other. Everybody is fighting for the same thing. The togetherness we have is remarkable. I love seeing it.

“It’s going to go down to the last game, there’s only two games left. We’ve got Blackburn at home next week – they’re second. All we seem to be doing is playing teams that are in and around us. The run-in has been tough but the lads know what’s at stake and what they have to do to get into the play-offs.”

Pompey manager Kenny Jackett

“It does look like it (missing out) might be the case, although we’ll have to see what happens in the last couple of games.

“But if we want to be successful next season – which we do – then we have to finish this one as well as we possibly can.

“There are certain things that we need to improve on – whether that’s power, experience, organisation or a little bit of all of them.

«If we want to be successful next season – which we do – then we have to finish this one as well as we possibly can.»

“A number of younger players have had their debut season and improved, but they have to be hungry enough to step on again.

“Recruitment will also be key over the summer because we need to keep our good players and add more of them.”
