2017-18: Portsmouth – Doncaster 2-2

Pompey manager Kenny Jackett:

“Taking into account what happened from 85 minutes onwards, we’re very happy with the point.

“The injury to the goalkeeper and then the sending off – which I think surprised everyone in the ground – made it tough.

“But the commitment the players showed after that was fantastic and I’m proud of them for that. They battled away to earn us a draw.

“We had a lot of control and did better between the boxes than we have done for a while, but the goals against have again disappointed me.

“It doesn’t take teams very much to score against us and that’s nine games now without a clean sheet, so we have to sort that out.

“Christian lost his man and allowed Marquis to score at a time when we were on top, so it deflated us.

“But we dug out a point thanks to a quality delivery from Donohue and there are fine margins at the moment between where we are and the top six sides.

“We’re obviously happy with the outcome because of the way it all ended, but it was a winnable game for us.”

Doncaster manager Darren Ferguson:

“It was a strange sort of game, but any time you come here it’s always going to be tough, there’s no two ways about it, and if you can leave here without being beat then it’s always a good result,” he said.

“We were outstanding early on, Copps got an early goal and we were dominant, but when they got their goal we couldn’t get a foothold in the game, in the second half we were resilient and defended them a lot better.”

“John got us back in the lead, but we couldn’t find a way to play like we did in the opening 20 minutes, we couldn’t get control though and the last period of the game where they’re down to nine men meant it would be difficult,” he added.

“Any game in Portsmouth you have to dig in, they penned us in a lot and we conceded a lot of corners, but for Tom Anderson and Andy Boyle to come straight into the side, they did very well, and they’ve settled in quite comfortably.”
