2015/16: Yeovil – Portsmouth 1-1

Not bad

Yeovil manager Darren Way:

“The only disappointment is the goal! We worked all week on defending that central area and nine times out of ten we’ve dealt with that.

“It’s a great touch and finish, I’ve slowed it down and watched it back. They’re a good team, and make no bones about it they’re a great team.

“But my players matched them, if not more… We’ll keep marching on!”
“We’ve got to bounce back from the position we’re in, it’s going to be an emotional roller coaster.

“We were on the bottom of the Big Dipper last week, now we’re on our way up again… How exciting!

“What a great environment it was with both supporters going at each other, two teams going at each other; it’s a fantastic football club and I keep saying to the players, we will stay up.”

Pompey manager Paul Cook:

«It’s a fantastic point, but never ever at any stage were we playing well in the game or we were in control of the game.

«I thought Yeovil were excellent on the day. It was a difficult game for us, but the reality of it was we never played well and we have dug ourselves a point and at the end of the season I think we will look at that point as a good point.

«We just weren’t at it today like we were last week. As a manger it always comes down to me, I accept that, but when you’re trying to change a culture of a club it is hard.»

Kommentarer fra The News:

In the first part of the season we had high percentage of possession but lacked a cutting edge, during the six weeks of having lavery and McNulty in the side we found the ideal combination and the goals flowed, confidence increased.where are they now ?,,,,,,McNulty sits on the bench and lavery sits at home watching soccer Saturday ,,,why did we not sigh him?,,,where is the ambition?

It makes very little difference how much revenue a club in league 2 generate ,Pompey have proved this,,so have accrington stanley, you need leadership and ambition from the top down,in my opinion we need comment from the board, silence is deafening.

It’s a shame we can only get a measly point against those Glovers. We need to be getting balls in the net. If we don’t score goals – we won’t climb the table. We should be where Northampton is. Cobblers play with pride and passion – and they bag the three points! We couldn’t bag some air!!

Looking at the table and Tuesday nights fixtures it’s very interesting, and potentially exciting. All the top teams are playing in banana skin fixtures, if we win and they lose, we will be three points off Oxford.. Defeat for us and results against us will put us in a seven team scrap for three play off places.

Roll out the ‘must win biggest game of the season cup final’ clichés, in other words let’s get bang up for Barnet lads! PuP

It was two very poor teams playing a bad game of football in a very cold, wet and windy afternoon. The team was flat and the atmosphere was flat. Definitely the quietest away game I’ve been to all season.

Again a lot of negative comments both in the terraces and on here. Bit silly some of the comments. Throwing money at a club doesnt bring success. It takes time to build a TEAM which is what will bring success. What we have is a collection of players who still haven’t found what it is to be a team yet. The table doesn’t lie, we haven’t been good enough this season. That is not the players fault, the managers fault, the boards fault or the PST. It takes time to click and we still have an element of inconsistency in the squad with loan signings and the odd the player coming in and being frozen out or leaving. Every team above us have been a consistent team building on promotion challenges from last season.

I still believe we will be in the playoffs at the end of the season and to be honest, finishing 4th or 7th doesn’t mean a thing. I don’t think we are good enough to finish in the top 3, the table doesn’t lie. Finishing 7th is an achievement when you think in the last 5 seasons or so, its been doom and gloom and relegations. And if we finish 8th this season… well lets have a bloody good pre-season, bring in 3 or 4 players (not a whole squad) and storm the league next year with Cook.

I’ve just got back, and have to say I was disappointed, not so much with the team, but with some of the negative comments around me during and at the end of the game. Yes we were poor today, but come on it was an away point, (it could have been a lot worse!) this morning we were never going to win every last remaining one of the seventeen games, and we still won’t go on to win the next sixteen, there will be lots more twists and turns to come,…importantly we’re still in there, so lets stick with it, it was never going to be easy to get out this league, and obviously it isn’t going to be, but there’s a way to go yet….lets take the positive that with ten men we hung in there and snatched a valuable point…..3 points Tuesday and it won’t have been a bad return from two away games,……upwards and onwards!!!, my men of the match, Fulton and Webster,….all in all with ten men we showed great tenacity and endurance to come back and get what just might be a priceless point!!
