2015-16: Portsmouth – Leyton Orient 0-1

Kommentarer fra The News

Seems like we have finally run out of puff from the boardroom down. We also don’t seem to be equipped to go up this season. We bring in loaners who all go back to their parent clubs in the summer and if promotion was gained that means at least 5 better players have to be found……….in total I think we would need 9 better players in the squad to have a chance of staying up. That means we have to find a large sum of money………where would that come from ??
The fans have coughed up enough over the last few years and put up with the boards terrible decisions regarding managers. Mr Cook is showing signs of strain and I am sure that doesn’t help the dressing room.
I am pretty convinced that the board is more than happy to remain a Div 2 team next season which is still better than having no club at all but is now getting old for the average fan. Lose to Bristol Rovers and it’s curtains for our season……..Lets see how the fans react if that happens.

During the week it was interesting to read how morning and afternoon Nolan had been working with his team on the tactics for todays game and what he perceived to be Pompey’s weaknesses. I was just wondering how much time, if any, Cook and his coaching team had worked on highlighting Orients weaknesses and been working on tactics to expose them. Watching the game, very little i think. However i am not one of Cook out brigade, for me he’s the right bloke for the job, managers will always frustrate fans with team selections and formations. For instance i couldn’t understand why Tollitt especially, and Naismith possibly, were not on the bench. In Tollitts case i’d actually have him playing in the 11 first up. Today we were crying out for a bit of pace and magic on the wings. Orients win shouldn’t be a total surprise having won their last 3 away games. Next week it’s Bristol Rovers who likewise have a good win ratio away from home. So how are we going to combat them?. As for McAnuff he’s always been a pain to Pompey over the years.

I’ve lost faith in Cook, he is arrogant, inflexible, and showing signs of losing his way…the job is clearly too big for him, he is struggling to select a winning side or even choose suitable tactics. By now most of us in the stands can see his way of playing has been rumbled by opposition, all you have to do is close us down quickly, ruffle us up and we look totally inept and bereft of ideas. He refuses to select the best players for the team, Tubbs is a striker who would be a fixture in virtually every other team in our league but Cook simply refuses to select him, for whatever reason..Cook reckons our keeper is a good young player who needs games to improve his play…..surely the same thing applies to Chaplin, who despite not starting a game for ages just happens to be our leading scorer…yet he doesn’t get on the park until too late and the game has gone from us….Cook is rude, arrogant and throws his toys out of his pram and behaves like an oaf when a reporter asks a question he doesn’t like….since Boxing day we have managed just five points from a possible 18, which is relegation from..I feel that if things remain as they are, we have seen promotion virtually slip from our grasp today, and despite there being 18 games to go, I cannot see us producing enough to even secure a place in the playoffs……….why does the manager leave out the most consistent player of the season (Davies) to play a loan player who looked ordinary, what did Smith bring to the side, he just looked awful, why does he always take off strikers when making substitutions (took both strikers off vs Morecambe and did the same today) and how does Bennett keep his place in the side when he so consistently loses the ball and can’t deliver a decent cross into the box….I am now resigned to yet another season in the bottom league

Roberts has failed to deliver since coming back from injury. Looks way off the pace and actually seems to have lost his creativity when on the ball. Can’t understand how he deserves his place in the starting line-up.

Has Bennett even crossed a ball into the box this entire season? He’s so predictable. Has been all season. Goes down the wing, cuts inside, loses the ball. Week in, week out. Can’t remember the last time he actually skinned up a defender and took it down the outside and actually whipped a ball into the box.

So bored of this sideways passing, with absolutely no end product. We haven’t looked a threat since before Christmas.

I don’t know why everybody is being so negative – at least Southampton won.

No stand out player for me, good or bad. Two poor teams cancelled each other out in the first half. Then Orient realised Pompey weren’t at the races and went for it, creating 4 gold plated chances. 0-1 flattered Pompey. They were just so sluggish, wanting too much time on the ball and persistently over hitting forward passes. Better to roll over MoM until someone can earn it.

Pompey Manager Paul Cook:

‘We were second best for the majority of the game.

‘Orient had clear chances, good chances and caused us problems

‘I could criticise different aspects, but we were second best and Orient must take great credit.

‘We haven’t played well. That’s the reality of the game.

‘We now have to lick our wounds and go again.

‘We have 18 games to give our supporters something to cheer about.’

Leyton Orient manager Kevin Nolan:

«This was a massive win for us today especially after last week. I was going to use the expression bouncebackability but the actual reaction from last Saturday was most pleasing for me. I said to them and told them that’s the happy medium they’ve got to keep whether we’re winning or losing.

«We have to keep the mentality of the group and the positiveness and that’s going to continue to happen now. We’ve had a fantastic win and we’re now in the play-offs and that’s where we want to be.»

«Obviously Nicky is a good friend of mine on and off the field. We are really close through our Bolton years and still kept in touch.

«When I realised he was available and that we could get him I thought it was a no brainer because I knew the quality he has and what he could bring us in his experience and his ability on the ball as well as his defensive capabilities. I’m delighted with his performance and it’s something he will only get better for as well.»

«With Shaun I went a lot with what Hessy [Andy Hessenthaler] said and watched a lot of videos before we got him in. I thought he did everything we needed and wanted and what we needed as a team and a back four.

«I’m delighted with him and that we were able to get him until the end of the season. Hopefully he will get fitter now and get better so we keep on keeping clean sheets because it’s such an amazing feeling when you do.»
