2025-26: Swansea – Portsmouth 1-0

Under pressure.

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho

“The performance was solid for large parts of the game and there are no issues with the effort levels.

“It’s so disappointing when you play like that away and then switch off for a goal – we didn’t get the press right and it was a bitter blow.

“There was very little in the game and there’s a frustration that we got into some really good areas and kept breaking, but didn’t put our opponents under enough pressure or create enough to score.

“We’re either not shooting or the ball doesn’t get put into the box quickly enough, so it’s something we definitely have to work on. We can do better with the guys we have at the top end of the pitch.

“But I could have taken coming away from Swansea with a solid point and not conceding – instead we’ve left with nothing.

“We’ve exited the pitch knowing that we could have done better and left with at least something to show for our efforts. It’s not easy to take.

“We know that we have to start winning games – there’s a big one coming up at the weekend and then more against sides around us over the festive period.”

Portsmouth player Ibane Bowat

“It’s a really frustrating one because that was a game where we should have come away with something – we were close, but not close enough.

“We defended pretty well overall and didn’t give our opponents many clear chances, bar the one that went in.

“It was gutting to concede because we had the upper hand for a lot of the game. We need to be more clinical when that’s the case.

“We don’t like losing and so it’s a case of going back to the drawing board to assess what’s going wrong at the moment.

“You have to stay as positive as possible, though, and focus on the games ahead because there is a busy schedule.

“It’s about taking learning from this game and trying to make sure we put things right over the coming weeks.”
