2024-25: Portsmouth – Blackburn 1-0

Happy hour.

Josh Murphy, Pompey goalscorer

“We needed that win after the last two results, although it was an absolutely horrible game of football!

“I can’t imagine what it would have been like to watch, but collecting all three points is the most important thing.

“You look back at the game after the end of the season and nobody really remembers how scrappy it was, just that we got the win.

“Now we just want to find a little bit more consistency because it’s something that we’re probably lacked.

“We’ve been up and down all season and that’s frustrating – both for us as a group and then also the fans.

“We want to keep chasing down the sides above us because then you don’t have to worry about the ones below.”

John Mousinho, Pompey manager

“I’m delighted with the result, while the performance was good in patches – we did just about enough to deserve the win.

“There’s plenty we can do better and the nervousness we showed after taking down the lead was probably because of what’s happened over the past couple of weeks.

“I was furious about the way we weren’t professional enough to see out the game at Preston and the errors we made.

“So it was particularly pleasing that we were much better in that sense this time, especially in the second half.

“Whenever we did make a mistake, we didn’t compound it by making another. We dealt with everything that Blackburn threw at us.

“At this stage of the season the important thing is just to win and it was a goal of so much quality, with clever hold-up play from Colby and a great finish from Josh.

“Going ahead actually changed the game because we were a real threat up until that point and then sat off a bit.

“But it’s a big result after the two losses because it’s incredibly tight, so we have to make sure that what happens elsewhere is irrelevant by doing the job ourselves.

“We’ve seen how quickly things can change and have to be right on it, without letting any complacency creep in.”
