2024-25: Portsmouth – Millwall 0-1

“It’s a disappointing result and we’ve just been undone by one piece of quality from Millwall. There was a bit of naivety from us to not end their attack, though, which we’ve been guilty of too many times – you get punished for that at this level. We huffed and puffed. There was loads of possession and territory, and some really good moments we didn’t take advantage of. We’ll pick the bones out of the performance, but if we don’t put the ball in the net on nights like those, then we should at least be coming away with a 0-0. It’s frustrating because barring the moments when we shot ourselves in the foot, we didn’t really have too much to do. There was a lot of pressure and we dominated the play, so the performance was there from us and Millwall did a good job of defending their box.”

Et par ord fra Conor Shaughnessy

“On a personal note, it felt fantastic to be out on the pitch again after what has been a tough few months for me. There have been a couple of setbacks, so it’s a great feeling and the reception from the fans was amazing. I’ve had longish-term injuries before, but this one was the most frustrating and mentally tough to get my head around because it kept changing. Hopefully I can now be out there again on a more regular basis and helping to contribute to the season. I’m feeling good and there were no problems for me. I feel ready to start and it’s up to the gaffer, but we’ve brought in some good centre-backs and I thought Hayden Matthews did really well. Overall, though, it was a disappointing night for us against Millwall and certainly not the result we wanted. The performance was there, but we lacked a bit of quality in the final third and they took one of the few chances they had.”
