We gave ourselves a mountain to climb by going a goal down – and we deserved to fall behind.
“It was similar to the Leeds game and was probably the best thing that could have happened to us because we decided we weren’t going to be idiotic about how we went about things.
“We got ourselves back into the match and then things were fairly even right up until the 40th minute.
“The two goals we’ve conceded just before half-time are absolutely abysmal and then Stoke were able to kill the game off straight after the break.
“I think the biggest positive for us it that it finished at six because it didn’t look like a side I recognised. We didn’t compete, we didn’t run, win challenges or headers.
“They ran more than us and that level of performance is absolutely unacceptable. The side that I picked and we set up was wrong and we’ll have to dissect the performance to find out why.
“We’ve learnt huge amount tonight about a lot of the players and we’ll have to see on Saturday how we’ll bounce back.”
