Pompey var tydeligvis ikke fornøyd med Jack Sparkes som cover for Conor Ogilvie på venstrebacken. Nå er Sparkes solgt og ny venstreback fra Australia er hentet inn.
NYHETER: Til tross for at han spilte hele 43 kamper for Pompey i jubelsesongen 2023/24, har John Mousinho og Pompey valgt å selge Jack Sparkes. Sparkes har skrevet under for League One-klubben Peterborough etter at de kjøpte han fra Pompey for et ikke-offentliggjort beløp.
Pompeys hovedtrener John Mousinho sier følgende til klubbens offisielle side om salget av Sparkes:
«Jack did a brilliant job for us last season and I’m sure his contribution will not be forgotten. We thank him for his efforts in a Pompey shirt and wish him all the best for the future at Peterborough.»

«Jack was one we were looking at in the summer to see how he came back and whether he could challenge for that left-back spot. Off the back of everything we have seen in pre-season, we thought it was a good one for Jack to move on – and I think it’s best for both parties. Everything happened really quickly too.
He was really excited to go to Peterborough, he made a massive contribution to the side which won the league last year and we are forever grateful for what Jack has done for the football club. Sometimes you look at players and think it’s time to move on. He’s had that opportunity and we won’t stand in his way. It wouldn’t have worked with three left-backs in the building, so it made sense.
We want to improve the squad. Everybody had a massive part to play in winning the league and you have to move on. There’s not much room for sentiment, as you would have seen over the past few months in terms of the decisions we’ve made. We want players who are ready to step up and make a good fist of it in the next league.’

21 år gamle Jacob Farrell er vår nye venstreback. Den australske U23-landslagsspilleren er kjøpt for et ikke offentliggjort beløp fra Central Coast Mariners. Han har skrevet under på en fireårskontrakt etter syv mål på 90 kamper for the Mariners, hvor han forrige sesong kom på årets lag i den australske toppdivisjonen.
Pompeys hovedtrener John Mousinho sier følgende om signeringen av Farrell:
«Jacob is a fantastic young prospect who joins us on the back of a great season with Central Coast Mariners. Despite his age, he’s played a lot of games already in his career and we’ve obviously got a decent relationship with players who have come over from Australia.
He’s an athletic left-back who’s also extremely solid defensively and he brings so much potential, so we’re delighted to have him on board.”

The Mariners can confirm that the club has agreed to the transfer of Treble winner Jacob Farrell with English Championship club Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee.
