Macey er tilbake

Matt Macey var John Mousinhos første signering etter at han ble ansatt forrige sesong. Nå er keeperen tilbake i Pompey.

NYHETER: Den 29 år gamle keeperen Matt Macey var på utlån i Pompey andre halvdel av sesongen og gjorde sine saker bra for John Mousinhos mannskap. Den over to meter høye keeperen holdt nullen i ni av de 21 kampene han spilte for Pompey fra januar til sesongslutt.

Han var linket til Pompey ved sesongslutt, men Luton skal da visstnok ha mye penger for å selge ham og Pompey endte opp med å hente Will Norris og Ryan Schofield i stedet.

Luton fikk ikke solgt Macey og han ble til slutt frigitt. Han har nå gått flere måneder uten klubb og valgte å signere for Pompey da muligheten bød seg nå i januar.

Will Norris har alt i alt hatt en bra sesong for Pompey, men den siste måneden har han ikke vært like solid. Ryan Schofield har ikke imponert i cupkampene han har spilt, og bør ikke bli kastet innpå i serieinnspurten.

Nå står kampen om førstekeeperrollen mellom Norris og Macey.

Macey har skrevet under på en kontrakt ut sesongen.

«Matt was my first signing after arriving at the club almost a year ago and I’m delighted to bring him back here. He did an excellent job for us last season and it really strengthens our goalkeeping unit because we know that he’s an outstanding shot-stopper.

«I’m really excited to be back here at Pompey and am excited to now get going again. I got the call to see if I’d be interested in returning and had such a good time here before, so it was something I wanted to make happen.

I’ve enjoyed being back around the lads – the ones who were here last season and then the new bunch as well. It’s a really good group and there’s a great atmosphere with the goalkeepers – it seems like a nice place to be.

I like to think I’ll be able to fit in well with that unit. I just want to add to what’s already here and help it move forward. The quality is high here and the league position shows that. Everything about the club is moving in the right direction and you can see that as soon you walk into the building.

Now I’ve got to do everything that I can to help this club get promoted and that competition can only help improve our performances. I can’t wait to be back at Fratton Park – once it gets going, the place gets rocking. There’s no better stadium in this league to play football.”
