16 år gammel debutant

I ligacupkampen mot Forest Green Rovers tirsdag hadde Pompey en 16 år gammel debutant som Manchester City viser interesse for.

NYHETER/AKADEMI: Merk deg navnet Koby Mottoh. Han ble frigitt av Arsenal som 15-åring i fjor sommer. Han prøvespilte for Pompey sommeren 2022 og fikk en to års lærlingkontrakt.

Angrepsspilleren Mottoh ble forrige sesong omskolert til høyre vingback på akademiet og svarte med å bli toppscorer.

Prestasjonene hans var så oppsiktsvekkende at flere Premier League-klubber, med Manchester City i spissen, skal være interesserte.

Mottoh er fortsatt i Pompey og har ett år igjen av sin kontrakt, men fortsetter han utviklingen kan det ikke ta lang tid før Pompey prøver å få profesjonell kontrakt med 16-åringen.

Tirsdag kveld kom han inn som innbytter i det 86. minutt da Pompey vant 3-1 mot Forest Green Rovers i ligacupen. Med elleve overtidsminutter fikk han et kvarter på banen og Mottoh fikk vist fram fart og gjennombruddskraft på høyrekanten. Dermed er førstelagsdebuten unnagjort. Forhåpentligvis får vi se mye mer til Mottoh på A-laget utover i sesongen.

Koby Mottohs kommentarer til debuten

“I’m absolutely buzzing and hopefully there are many more appearances to come for me. I was looking at the time and it was getting close to the end of the game, so I was just hoping to get on.

It was tight at the start, but as soon as the penalty went in I just wanted to be on the pitch and making an impact. There were a couple of chances for me and I got my crosses in and worked back, so I felt I was able to do that. I’m grateful for the opportunity and when I saw the sign go up for 11 more minutes, I had a big smile on my face.

This is just the start and I’ve got loads more work to do, but I want to thank the academy staff and everyone who’s helped me on this journey. I’m grateful for everything they’ve done and the next step is to keep going because this is just the beginning.”
