Den irske midstopperen Conor Shaughnessy er klar for Pompey.

NYHETER: Den 26 år gamle iren kommer fra Burton, hvor hans kontrakt gikk ut i sommer. Midtstopperen har skrevet under på en toårskontrakt, men Pompey har opsjon på ytterligere ett år.

Selv om han først og fremst er midtstopper kan han spille i flere posisjoner. Både på sidene og sentralt på midtbanen.

«Conor is a very versatile player and has appeared in a number of positions for Burton over the past couple of years. He’s just as comfortable operating in the middle of the park than he is at the back, but we’ve brought him in because of his quality. Athletic and very comfortable on the ball, his challenge is to nail down a place in the side next season.

Conor is someone who I’m very excited to see playing in a Pompey shirt – and I’m sure the fans are too.”

«I’m really happy and excited to be here and I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans. I learnt of Pompey’s interest a couple of weeks after the season ended and had a good chat with the manager. It just confirmed that this is the ideal place for me to make the next step and this is obviously a massive football club.

I’ve played here a few times before – and don’t think I’ve ever come away with a win. So I’m looking forward to being on the home side. This is a football club with passionate fans, which makes me even more excited to get out in front of them. Everyone I’ve spoken to has been massively positive about the place. I’ve been shown around and it looks beautiful with the sun shining. It’s a great opportunity for me to be a part of this project and one that I couldn’t really turn down. I can’t wait to get going.

I like to get stuck in and play out from the back when it’s on, giving an option for everyone on the pitch to take the ball. I love defending and everything that comes with it. I can guarantee that I’ll always give 100 per cent – the fans can expect that from me.”
