Han ble kåret til årets unge spiller i League One forrige sesong. Tirsdag kveld signerte Paddy Lane for Pompey.

NYHETER: Kort tid før transfervinduet stengte, signerte Paddy Lane en kontrakt med Pompey på 3,5 år. Pompey betaler Fleetwood en ikke offentliggjort overgangssum for Lane, men det spekuleres i rundt 250.000 pund.

Den 21 år gamle midtbanespilleren har hatt en kometkarriere. Han skrev sin første proffkontrakt for under to år siden. Siden den gangen har han debutert for Nord-Irlands A-landslag, blitt kåret til årets spiller i Fleetwood og årets unge spiller i hele League One.

One of the most important things for us was that he was really keen on coming to Pompey and we got some excellent references. Paddy has a lot of guile and can beat players, while he has a wand of a left foot that our fans will love to see.

But they’ve already seen that to their detriment when he scored for Fleetwood at Fratton Park last season! Paddy’s a really clever player with excellent ability and we believe he has a bright future ahead of him.

«The move had been in the works for a couple of days and I was over the moon to get it over the line. I’ve played at Fratton Park twice before and it was unbelievable – I remember walking out of the tunnel and thinking it was superb.

So when I heard that Pompey were interested it was a no-brainer for me. I said to my agent that if we can, I need to go down there. Ellis Harrison spoke highly about the place and I also spoke to Callum Johnson. They both gave good references.

I know this is a club with rich tradition and I’m hoping we can get back to those previous levels. I’m hoping I can add to the history. The fans here are superb and so I’m looking forward to being on the home side. I can’t wait to meet them all.

I spoke to the gaffer and I like the ideas he has for me and the club, so I’m excited to be able to work with him and all the lads. I’m buzzing about forming those connections with the rest of the players and working hard to get Pompey where it belongs.

I’ll be forever grateful to Fleetwood for giving me the platform to play in League One and last season was a dream. I want to replicate that form here.

I like to play on the right and come in on my left foot, getting balls into the box and taking some risks. I want to create chances, but will also work hard for the team and do my job off the ball.
