Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley:
“It was a really tough night for us – everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.
“We had a good way into the game and looked like we were in control, only to fall behind from a set-piece, as we did against Fleetwood.
“You look at the team we picked and it’s big and physical. We shouldn’t be conceding that goal – it’s unacceptable.
«It was a really tough night for us – everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.»
“The response from that wasn’t good enough. We lost the ball, they countered right through the middle of us and scored.
“We were then chasing against a very athletic team. We are therefore more open and more vulnerable.
“We made some changes at half-time and were on the ascendency. If we got one, then we thought we’d get the second.
“But Marlon then got sent off and we conceded from the resulting free-kick. We work so hard on the training ground to deal with these moments and it shouldn’t happen.
“There’s a lot of character in this group, but when things went against us, we didn’t show our personality.
“We have to accept that and take a collective responsibility. That includes staff and players – there are a lot of things I could have done better.
“There were also some individual performances that were below the level that we would expect from them.
“We didn’t react well enough in the big moments. The resilience and grit that saw us go nine unbeaten in the league couldn’t be found.”
