Pompey har omsider sikret seg en spiss. Joe Pigott er mannen.
NYHETER: George Hirst, Aiden O’Brien, Tyler Walker, John Marquis, Ellis Harrison og Gassan Ahadme er alle borte. De var spisser for Pompey i 2021/22-sesongen.
Pompey sto igjen uten spisser og har brukt kantspillere, prøvespillere og unggutter på topp i treningskampene i sommer. Fram til Joe Pigott signerte.
Endelig har Danny Cowley og hans trenerteam lyktes med å få tak i en spiss. 28 år gamle Joe Pigott kommer på lån fra Ipswich for hele 2022/23-sesongen. Dette ble offentliggjort samme dag som Marcus Harness ble solgt fra Pompey til nettopp Ipswich.
Pigott hadde en strålende 2020/21-sesong for AFC Wimbledon og hadde en rekke klubber på jakt etter sin signatur sommeren 2021. Deriblant Pompey. Han endte med å skrive under for Ipswich, men fikk lite spilletid for klubben. Nå skal han prøve å få fart på karrieren igjen.

Pompey-manager Danny Cowleys kommentarer til signeringen av Pigott
«“We’ve got a player who is really hungry – he loves football and was starved of that a bit last season. So he’s highly motivated and was eager to come to Pompey, where he’s previously scored a few goals.
Joe previously went back into non-league football with Maidstone, where he had a great record to earn his move to AFC Wimbledon. Simon Bassey worked with him there and they have a good relationship. He’s a boy we know really well.
Joe will bring some real intelligence and good link play, while he obviously carries a threat in the final third. He’s an excellent finisher with both feet and scores all kinds of goals, making clever runs behind defenders. We’re pleased to have Joe and I think we’ve signed him at exactly the right time. We’re really looking forward to working with him.”

«I’m really happy to be here and can’t wait to be playing at Fratton Park. I’ve scored quite a few goals against Pompey and have had some good experiences, although I did lose 4-0 on my last visit here! I remember the fans – home and away – and that they’ve always been fantastic and really passionate.
The manager has outlined what he wants from me and the team this season and coming here was a real no-brainer. I’m really looking forward to working with Simon Bassey once again because we go back quite a few years. Now I just want to enjoy my football again and do my job, which is scoring goals to help the team win games.
Conor Chaplin spoke really highly about the club and again said how passionate the fans are here.”
