Valgte USA foran nye år i Pompey

Andre Dozzell forlater Pompey etter to sesonger på Fratton Park.

NYHETER: Han har sjelden stjålet overskriftene, men midtbanespiller Andre Dozzell har levert jevnt over bra i de to sesongene etter at han kom gratis fra QPR sommeren 2024.

Det var ikke de store forventningene til Dozzell i Pompey-trøyen ettersom han ikke var særlig populær i QPR, men Dozzell har vært stadigheten selv for Pompey. Han har på disse to sesongene spilte 80 kamper. De to målene han har scoret kom denne sesongen, og begge var veldig viktige. Han ble matchvinner hjemme mot Preston i høst og utlignet til 2-2 helt sent i kampen hjemme mot Oxford i serieinnspurten.

Dozzells kontrakt går ut nå ved sesongslutt. Pompey kom med et nytt tilbud om kontrakt til 27-åringen, men kontraktstilbudet kom visstnok først etter at plassen i Championship var sikret. Da hadde allerede Dozzell bestemt seg for å flytte på seg.

Andre Dozzell flytter til USA og Washington DC. Der skal han de neste sesongene spille for DC United. Det betyr at Pompey må hente inn minst én ny sentral midtbanespiller i sommer. Dozzell er den sentrale midtbanespilleren med mest spilletid for Pompey disse to sesongene i Championship.

«This is a special club, with special supporters, staff and players – all of whom have made my time at Pompey unforgettable. We have spent these two years fighting relegation and come out on top both times. The fans take a lot of credit for that because they stuck with us and helped us get over the line each time.

I think that staying in the Championship has been a real achievement and hopefully now is the time for the club to really push on. It was an absolute privilege for me to represent Portsmouth FC and I will continue to watch what happens closely.

“We’re disappointed to lose Doz, who has been a valuable member of the side during these past two campaigns. He started every game that he was available for this season – which tells you what I think of him – and has gone from strength to strength.

We would have liked to keep him, but he’s been given an opportunity to go and play abroad and experience something different. He’s earned that that right with his performances on the pitch and will always be welcome back at Fratton Park.
