“It’s a tough one to take. We know where we are right now and we know exactly what we have to do.
“We’re in a real battle now and so we need to show a lot of fight and character to bounce back and get out of this position.
“It was a frustrating game because we played well in parts, but obviously not where it counts in the final third.
“Things didn’t fall for us, although we have to give Derby credit because I thought they defended their box really well.
“They’re a big, physical side and did the nasty side of the game really well, but we also needed to do more to put the ball in the back of the net.
“The focus is now fully on the next match and trying to win it – that’s what we’re all concentrating on now.
“It’s easy when you’re winning, but all the players and staff need to pull together because this is when you find out who really wants it.”
Portsmouth manager John Mousinho
“There’s a sense of déjà vu from the Sheffield United and Hull games because once again we were in control.
“We got into some really good areas and were ultimately let down by the quality of that final ball or our decision making.
When we got deliveries into the box, we weren’t quite there to meet them, while when we did have bodies present, we’d send it into the keeper’s arms.
“It was a frustrating night. We played well for large parts and did 90 percent of the things we’re asking of the boys.
“There’s something I’ve obviously got to solve between now and Saturday. We’ve tried different combinations and looked to mix it up and it’s just not clicking.
“The situation isn’t great and we need to show a sense of urgency, but we don’t need to panic because we’re still outside the bottom three with a game in hand.
“The simple fact is that we have to find a way to go and win at the weekend and there are some huge contests coming up.
“Something has to change – and that’s us putting the ball in the back of the net. We’re creating pressure and looking to play, so everyone can sense the frustration.
“The fans know what we’re trying to achieve and we share their worry, but that support is absolutely huge and we need it.”
