Portsmouth manager John Mousinho:

“I thought it was a superb performance and we probably would have taken a point if it was offered beforehand.

“But I thought that we deserved to win the game and so it feels a little bit bittersweet. The boys can be proud of how they played.

“We wanted to be as aggressive as possible on the press because they have so many good players and that’s sometimes been a problem for us on the road this season.

“But we did well on this occasion and then also tried to hurt Watford, which I thought we did a number of times.

“Nico is obviously disappointed with the goal we conceded, but he’s been one of our most consistent players and will bail us out far more times than he’ll cost us.

“Saturday was about getting the job done – which we did – and this time we produced a fine display, despite being so thin on the ground.

“Everyone did well, but I thought the two centre-halves, in particular, were absolutely superb against dangerous forwards.”

Pompey player Connor Ogilvie:

“We’ll take the point and move on to Sunday, but we controlled large parts of the game and could have won it.

“There were backs against the wall right at the very end and we coped with it well to see out the final few minutes.

“It was a pretty physical game and they had a big boy up top, so I was pleased with how we defended overall.

“I knew I’d be playing in the centre on Tuesday and it’s something I’ve done before – I felt fairly comfortable.

“Playing away from home is different and it’s something you have to deal with, coping with the intensity of it all.

“We’re out of the bottom three, which is nice to see, and now we need to kick on and have a strong second half of the season.

“All the boys are buzzing ahead of the derby on Sunday and we want to get a win for the fans. I’m looking forward to the atmosphere.”
