Sæsonens dårligste kamp.
Med hele 0-5 hos Bristol City blev der sat en mere end effektiv stopper for vores lille stime af kampe uden nederlag. I tabellen ændrede nederlaget ikke noget, men afstanden ned til 22. pladsen er nu blot et enkelt point.
Der var fire ændringen i startelleveren denne aften, hvor Conor Shaughnessy, Ibane Bowat, Luke Le Roux og John Swift alle fik chancen fra start. For førstnævntes vedkommende var det den første ligastart i mere end tre måneder.

Eftertanken
Med tanke på fraværet af flere vigtige spillere er det ikke underligt, at det ikke lykkedes at få et resultat med fra Bristol. Det handler mere om måden at vi gik ned på, hvilket på sin vis også var underligt da defensiven ikke var specielt hårdt ramt. Både flere gange i sidste sæson, og også i indeværende har vi fremvist en decideret skrøbelig mentalitet på udebane, eksemplificeret ved store nederlag hos Birmingham, Sheffield United og nu også Bristol City, hvoraf ingen er deciderede topklubber. Nogle kampe formår vi bare ikke at være i, og begrænse nederlaget. Til sammenligning har elleve ud af Oxfords tretten nederlag blot været med et enkelt mål, hvoraf blot en enkelt var en decideret 0-3 snitter mod Stoke. Så hvorfor går det galt for os? Resultatet er at vi ender med en måldifference, der er værre end konkurrenternes. Allerede nu har vi den dårligste efter tabeljumboen Sheffield Wednesday – som vi endda allerede har tabt til med 0-2. Så tæt som det pt. er i bunden af rækken, er det ikke utænkeligt, at netop måldifferencen i sidste ende kan blive afgørende. Det er ikke nok igen og igen at påpege, at det ikke er godt nok. Mousinho bliver også nødt til at arbejde og gøre fremskridt med mentaliteten i truppen.
Et hurtigt liga-overblik
Igen koncentrerer vi os udelukkende om bunden, da det er vores hverdag sandsynligvis sæsonen ud. Med sejre over henholdsvis WBA og Leicester meldte Swansea og Sheffield United sig reelt ud af bundkampen, og begge er nu oppe på 32 points med otte ned til stregen. Det blev også til tre points til Norwich via en 2-1 sejr hos QPR, og de ånder os nu kraftigt i nakken igen blot et enkelt point bag os, og med en måldifference der er fem mål bedre end os. Også Charlton kom på tavlen da de delte 1-1 med topholdet Coventry, der er begyndt at vise svaghedstegn. Ud over os tabte kun Oxford, hvilket var et knebent 1-2 nederlag på Portman Road mod Ipswich.

“When you lose 5-0 you have to take responsibility as a coaching staff for the tactical set-up. We tried to deal with Bristol City’s shape in a different way and it didn’t work, but the players also have to take responsibility for their part. The first goal was an unbelievable strike and we’d looked okay up until then. They had possession, but we weren’t too exposed. But there are a couple more where we’ve just shot ourselves in the foot by trying to play out from the back. It just seemed to be one game too far for us against a side who had their own injury troubles earlier in the season. But they’re firing now they are back at almost full strength and there was clearly a gulf between the sides. We’re now going to have move on very quickly from that because we’ve got another important game coming up on Sunday.”
“I think the fans will hopefully understand the position we’re in at the moment and it’s tough to deal with the damage to the squad when you’ve got four games in nine days. We went to Derby before Christmas with a frontline of Colby Bishop, Josh Murphy and Callum Lang and now they’re all out, with plenty more also absent. They could see the progress we’re making with four matches unbeaten, although this latest performance is obviously not good enough. I know they’ll stick with us because there are some really important fixtures coming up and we can’t let this one define us.”

“It’s a difficult one to sum up and an incredibly difficult day for us – that’s not the standard we want to set. The good thing is there’s another game coming along in a few days and we’ll do everything we can to put things right against Ipswich. We probably need to sit down and analyse the performance to work out exactly what went wrong, but they were clearly the much better side. That was a bad day at the office. It’s not good enough from us as a collective – we saw on Monday night that we win together, but we also lose together. We just have to make sure that we don’t get too down. We’ll look to pick ourselves up again pretty quickly. You have to get your recovery right in this busy period of fixtures over Christmas and be ready to go again straight away.”
