2025-26: Portsmouth – Watford 2-2

O Captain! My Captain.

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho:

“It really feels like two points dropped because of the positivity of our performance – particularly in the first half.

“If Watford get the ball down and slice us open with good play, then fair enough – that’s the Championship.

“But the two goals we conceded were so poor, particularly the first coming just 30 seconds into the second half, when we had possession and left ourselves horribly exposed.

“The next one came from us getting into a mess on the right side of the pitch and not dealing with a long pass. We didn’t do the basics.

“It’s frustrating because we’d earned our lead and then caused ourselves problems by giving the ball away so cheaply and getting countered on.

“I’m pleased that we kept going and levelled, then looked to build more momentum, without being able to put the ball in the net again.

“It was encouraging to see Segs come off the bench and get his goal, as well as Harvey Blair making his first appearance since May.

“So there were lots of positives from us out there, but ultimately we need to be better if we want to kick on.”
