“The frustrating thing is that we waited until going down a goal down before we started playing.

“We had some chances on the break and a really good chance to level the contest, but lacked that belief to create a bit more or put it in the net.

“When we got on the ball a bit more in the second half, we showed that we can play and looked a lot better.

“We see the quality and execution that these players show every single day in training and so we need to get to that stage in matches.

“If we make mistakes or don’t get the success doing the right things that’s acceptable, but we didn’t do that in the first half.

“But the fact we’re frustrated to lose against a side that have come down from the Premier League and have spent more on one of their substitutes than we have on our whole squad – which they’ve earned the right to do – shows we’re getting there.

“It’s been a big improvement from where we found ourselves at this stage last year and now need to take the next step.
