2025-26: Portsmouth – PEC Zwolle 1-0 (Testkamp)

“We were facing a top European side who moved the ball around and caused us some problems. So we tweaked a few things at the break and it was a completely different performance in the second half – we deserved to win the game. That wasn’t the most important thing at this stage of the season, but it’s still nice to come away with a positive result. We’ll have to look back on the things we could have done better in the first half, while trying to build on what we did so well in the second. I’m encouraged by what I’ve seen from us in pre-season, while also not getting carried away by games where there are no points available. It’s nice to play well and win, but we’re ultimately going to be judged on what happens at this time next week. Everyone’s always pleased when the competitive fixtures come back around and it’s an exciting time for us all.”

Et par ord fra John Swift

“We found it hard to get the press right in the first half-hour, but then we started to get the hang of dealing with our opponents. I played a little bit deeper than I did at Brighton earlier in the week and was just trying to drop to get possession as much as possible. We were able to pick up a lot of second balls and managed to control the game better, creating a few chances. Perhaps we could have scored a couple more, but we were able to get one right at the end to win the game.”
