Michael Jacobs spiller likevel for Pompey i 2022/23-sesongen.
NYHETER: Det var tidligere så stor avstand mellom Pompey og Michael Jacobs i forhandlingene om ny kontrakt, og det ble regnet som sannsynlig at Jacobs derfor hadde spilt sin siste kamp for Pompey.
Nå har derimot 30-åringen med 13 målpoeng (sju scoringer og seks assists) forrige sesongen blitt enig med Pompey om en forlengelse av kontrakten. Den kreative spilleren har skrevet under på en ny ettårskontrakt med Pompey.

Dette ble møtt med jubel fra Pompey-fansen. Jacobs har riktignok slitt med en del skader etter at han kom fra Wigan, men det er ingen andre Pompey-spillere som har flere målpoeng i forhold til spilletid enn nettopp Jacobs de siste sesongene.
En skadefri Jacobs er en av League Ones beste spillere.

«It’s great that it’s all sorted and that I’m going to be spending another season at the club. I’ve had an excellent relationship with the fans during my time here, despite it being a bit stop-start for me. But when I have played, then I feel as though I’ve produced decent performances and they’ve responded to that.
Hopefully, with a decent pre-season under my belt, I can be fighting fit and ready to play consistently.
Our form from the end of January was really good – both in terms of performances and the number of points we collected. We just left it a little bit too late to be able to get into the play-offs, but it was still an encouraging way to finish and now we want to build on that.
A lot of the squad from last season has been kept together and that’s a good stepping stone for us moving forward. There will obviously some changes in personnel before the start of the new season and the division is going to be strong again.
But if we can produce the form we’re capable of on a consistent basis, then we’ll give ourselves a great chance of finding success.”

«We’re really pleased to be able to extend Michael’s contract because he played a pivotal role in our good run of form at the back end of last season.
“He brings quality to our side and has an amazing ability to find space and unlock opposition defences to create and score goals. Michael also has an excellent set-piece delivery and so we’re delighted that he’s staying with us for another season.
There would have been other options for him, but he probably feels that there’s some unfinished business for him here. I also know that he really appreciates the support he’s received from the Fratton faithful. He feels at home here.”
