Akademitrener Liam Daish: «I was very pleased with how we played and the start, in particular, was the best I’ve seen for a long time. The boys worked as a collective and produced plenty of effort. It was also nice to have Haji Mnoga and Tom Bruce back in the fold. Their defensive qualities are important for us and hopefully they can remain fit for the rest of the season.”

Pompey: Durin; Kavanagh (c), Bruce (Mnoga 66), Robb, Rew; Storey, Bridgman; Teggart (Lee 62), Bell (Anderson 62), Brook; Stanley

Portsmouth – Forest Green 6-0

Akademimanager Mark Kelly: «We scored some good goals, although the Forest Green side was a bit of a mixed bag, with a blend of U18s and U16s. We now go to their place for the return fixture on Tuesday and it might be a stronger side we face then.

“But I was pleased with the goals we scored and probably even happier with the fact we’ve kept a clean sheet. We’ve conceded too many times this season and have been putting a real emphasis on making sure that improves. So it was great to see us show a lot more discipline and that really gives us a platform that we have to build on.»

Pompey: Seymour; Kavanagh (c), Bruce, Robb, Mnoga (Kelly 70); Bridgman (Jewitt-White 64), Bell; Teggart, Lee, Brook (Dawson 70); Stanley (Anderson 58)

Forest Green – Portsmouth 1-1

Akademimanager Mark Kelly: «The sending off was a turning point. The first booking was actually an excellent tackle, but you’ve got to be a bit cuter when you’re on a yellow card. He slid in for a tackle when he should have stayed on his feet. It’s a lesson for Haji about discipline and something he’ll learn from.

“Forest Green then took more risks to get back into the game, but we were resilient and dealt with balls into their box. Unfortunately, they managed to level with what, to be fair, was a really good header, although we still created chances with 10 men.»
