Pompey (4-4-2): Bass; Rwakarambwe (Davies 46), Granger, Yates (Joseph-Buadi 46), Haunstrup; Widdrington (McDowell 46), May, Scutt, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Haitham; Sayers

Akademitrener Mikey Harris: "It was just one match too many for them at this stage of the season. A lot of the lads played reserve matches on Tuesday and Thursday before getting up early on Saturday to make the long trip to Plymouth for an 11.30am kick-off. They tried their best to do the right things, but were unable to show the qualities they’ve displayed for much of the campaign.

It was a tough challenge for them and I know they were disappointed, although we’re not going to criticise them too much. We worked out that some of the boys have played almost 60 games, which is a big ask for young people who are still developing physically. We’ve also got Snorre Nilsen and Chad Field currently out on loan and doing well for Bognor, so that leaves us two guys light.

A few of our under-16s have stepped up and they actually all performed well – probably because they’re a bit fresher. I know it sounds ridiculous after a 6-0 defeat, but there were some positives to take, with some decent individual displays.”

Pompey (4-4-2): Bass; Rwakarambwe, Nilsen, Saidy (Yates 61), Davies; Granger, May, Oxlade-Chamberlain (Scutt 65); Joseph-Buadi, Sayers, Haitham (Bradbury 72)

Akademitrener Mikey Harris: "We had a lot of chances, particularly in the first 15 minutes of both halves. Liam Sayers, who’s in good form at the moment, went through a couple of times, as did Brandon Joseph-Buadi, but we found their goalkeeper in fine form.

We then thought Adam May had scored after the break, but unfortunately it was ruled out for offside.

Then, right at the end, we were on the attack when Peterborough made a long cleared up the pitch. But our centre-backs Snorre Nilsen and Dory Yates both called for it at exactly the same time and almost clattered into each other. Their striker took advantage and was brought down as he tried to round Alex. The referee awarded the penalty, they scored from it and there wasn’t enough time for us to hit back.

But it was a decent team display, especially when you consider the amount of games we’ve played recently. I can’t criticise the boys’ desire or work-rate – it’s just disappointing for them that they couldn’t collect any points.”

Pompey (4-4-2): Bass; Davies, Nilsen, Field, Haunstrup; Rwakarambwe (Yates 60), Oxlade-Chamberlain, Granger (Bedford 68); Joseph-Buadi, Sayers (Woodward 72), Haitham

Akademitrener Mikey Harris: "The match was a pretty even affair, with both sides pressing high and working hard out of possession. It was extremely competitive and not like your typical end of season contest – everyone was keen to go out on a positive note. We created quite a few chances and Liam scored with a great finish, while Alex did well at the other end. In possession, though, we weren’t quite as controlled as we had been against Peterborough during the week – a match we lost 1-0.

Sometimes we took one touch when two or three would have done and sometimes it was the opposite. Our decision making could have been a lot better. The second half then turned quite scrappy, but we defended well and were able to hold on for the victory, which the lads were delighted with. Credit must go to them for the way they applied themselves – not just in this game, but throughout the season."
